Kathmandu – The Government of India has extended emergency relief materials to Nepal to support families affected by the recent floods and landslides. The consignment was officially handed over by Shri Narayan Singh, Second Secretary at the Indian Embassy in Nepal, to Mr. Khagendra Prasad Rijal, Chief District Officer of Banke, in a ceremony held at Nepalgunj.
The relief package, weighing 4.2 tonnes, includes essential humanitarian aid such as tarpaulins, sleeping bags, blankets, chlorine tablets, and bottled water. These items were transported from India to Nepalgunj to provide immediate assistance to the affected communities. In addition to this consignment, the Government of India is preparing to send further relief materials, including hygiene products, medicines, and other necessary supplies, which will be delivered soon.
India continues to play a vital role as the First Responder in times of crisis, both in its neighboring countries and beyond. Following the devastating earthquake in Nepal in 2015, India was the first nation to respond, launching “Operation Maitri,” its largest disaster relief mission abroad. More recently, India also provided relief assistance following the Jajarkot earthquake in November 2023.
The Government of India remains committed to offering full support to Nepal in the wake of the destruction caused by the recent floods and landslides.
